My name is Kelly Ensminger and I will be teaching 6th grade this year at Maranatha Christian Academy. I love teaching this age! I love their enthusiasm and desire to explore the world and how they begin developing their own opinions. Let me share with you a few things about myself.
First is my education. I received my high school education right here in Kansas at Basehor-Linwood High School, where I began the first ever Fellowship of Christian Athletes club that still thrives to this day. I then went to Nashville, Tennessee on a volleyball scholarship to Trevecca Nazarene University. While at Trevecca, I was an elected member of student council for several years and also involved in community outreach teams. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education K-9. I have continued my education with master level courses at Baker University and Friends University and am now highly qualified in Language Arts.
Second is my experience. I taught eight years as a seventh grade Language Arts teacher and also coached high school and middle school volleyball in Tennessee. After moving to Kansas I taught a year in Shawnee Mission as an eighth grade Language Arts teacher until we had our daughter. I then joyfully embraced my role as Mom and began volunteering in children’s ministry at our church. When our daughter went to first grade I then began substituting at her school. By the time she was in 5th grade I had the pleasure of being requested to serve in 8 different long term substitute assignments in various age levels. Little did I know that God would be preparing me for my elementary teaching position at MCA.
Third is my philosophy of teaching. I believe a good teacher has a positive and controlled learning environment that empowers the students to achieve. I believe that my expectations of the students greatly influence their achievement in my classroom and in their lives. I also believe that partnering with the parents is crucial to a child’s success. This is going to be the most exciting and personally rewarding teaching year of my career; because for the first time, I will be able to enthusiastically incorporate biblical principles into all aspects of my teaching.
Fourth is my personal life. My best friend and partner in all that I accomplish is my husband of 20 years, Kerry, who although being a Floridian, willingly moved to Kansas for me. Our daughter, Grace, who truly is a gift we didn’t deserve, will be attending 8th grade at MCA this year. We attend Central Church of the Nazarene in Lenexa where I serve on the church board, and teach a junior high Sunday School class. I love to travel with my family and take pictures.
I believe that God has called me to MCA and I know that great things are ahead!
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
