After being a secretary for a construction company in Independence, Kansas, I decided to return to my first love and teach preschool, because I have a degree in Early Childhood Education. My family had recently moved to Olathe. When I was visiting them one weekend, I was reading the paper and noticed a want ad for a preschool teacher position at a local preschool. I applied and got the job. My son and I moved to Olathe. That was over 20 years ago and we have loved it here ever since.
While working in Olathe for just a while, one of my co-workers told my about Trinity Christian Center in Shawnee stating the she felt that “You are too Christian to be here.” I called the number she gave me, interviewed over the phone, and got the job. I worked there for 10 years until Maranatha bought the building in 2003. I guess you could say I came along with the building. I am glad that I did.
I am a teacher in the Blue Room, where the children are 3 turning 4 years old. I love that age! My greatest joy is teaching these kids that God is real and that He loves them very much. One of the most wonderful things that I get to see is the answered prayer of a child. It might be as simple as praying for a lost toy. Then I watch as the look of awe show on their face when they realize that they are actually talking to God and that He has helped them find their toy.
When I was 30 years old I watched someone on TV talk about having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I grew up in a Christian home, and was saved, but whatever it was that that man on TV had, I wanted. I prayed a prayer after him, and I was different after that. I read the bible for hours at a time, and actually enjoy it. I listen to Christian music and Bible teaching on the radio. I go to church and can’t wait for the next small group meeting. And like those 3 year olds, I am still in awe when God answers my prayers.
Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you no not know.Jeremiah 33:3
